The Unfinished Bridge

thicker than water
but thinner than blood
chaotic and murky
resembling mud

don’t reach for me with outstretched palm
I will not take your hand
you only search when in need of me
so I can’t promise to understand

thicker than water
but thinner than blood
chaotic and murky
resembling mud

more than half of our lives
are years we’ve spent adjacent
but time must have passed you swiftly
for you wandered through so vacant

thicker than water
but thinner than blood
chaotic and murky
resembling mud

the bridge we started stands unfinished
no capstone to mark its end
try first to build in yourself what you seek in me
and maybe then you will find a friend
