to eat my words

i ask of you what i cannot do
i may be sitting
but my mind
it wanders
i am not as still as i appear
with lips pursed shut
jaw tensed tightly
i bar my words from escaping
swallow the ones i’m unsure of
only to be regurgitated later
sometimes
often
always
lies taste better
than what i’ve been eating
